The Coty Family (from left): Matt, Belle, Gabi, Rosanne

If you are visiting this website for the first time, you might be looking to answer one (or all) of these questions:
  • What in the world is field hockey?
  • Will this club be good for my daughter?
  • What am I getting myself into?
Fortunately, you are not alone. Back in 2010, Rosanne Coty was in exactly the same position. Her soon-to-be freshman daughter, Gabi, pleaded with her to attend a preseason parent information meeting for what was then still a very small club entering only its third season.

"I remember arriving at the meeting very late and thinking that Gabi was going to be upset because I missed everything. Instead of ignoring me, the coaches stayed after the meeting and answered all my questions. I could tell they cared, and that was what got us started in Forest Hills Field Hockey."

Six years later, the Cotys have watched more than one hundred field hockey games, as Gabi's sister Belle followed her into the club. The two played together in the state championship game in 2013, and won medals in the State Games of Michigan. Gabi graduated in 2014 and has played two seasons at Ohio Wesleyan University, where she earned All-Conference honors as a freshman.

The family's involvement didn't end there -- Matt, a longtime soccer coach, found himself on the sidelines as a volunteer coach for several seasons; Rosanne also volunteered extensively taking game photos and helping to organize special events.

What's the point of this story?

Forest Hills Field Hockey is all about family.

Rosanne Coty says she encourages other parents to give field hockey a try:
"As a parent of two daughters who participated in FH2 for a total of 6 years, I feel compelled to stress that the program is an incredibly worthwhile time investment for players and their families. Andrea Shaner is a visionary who brought her love of a sport and established a program that fosters talent, self-reliance, sportsmanship, competition, and physical endurance. I highly recommend the field hockey team for your daughters as a sport outlet. The positive outlook of coaches and players is contagious, and refreshing!"

We understand that trying a new sport can be a challenge, not just for players, but for families. Whether it is providing a stick to borrow for an introductory camp, holding parent meetings and special events, or just staying late to answer questions about the sport, we are committed to making your experience as positive as possible.

It all goes back to another one of our club's main philosophies:

Sports are meant to be fun.

We encourage you to visit a game, drop by a practice, or just send us an email to see what it's all about.
