Meet the Captains - Julia Brown

During the offseason, we're getting to know some of our Forest Hills Field Hockey players and coaches.

Looking ahead to fall 2021, one of our three varsity captains is current junior Julia Brown. Watch for more profiles in the coming weeks!

1) How did you get into field hockey?

-  I got into field hockey through friends. They all enjoyed it and I wanted to give it a try, and ended up falling in love with the sport and the team!

2) Tell me about some of your favorite field hockey moments.

My favorite field hockey memory was the final game of the 2020 season. I had been talking to my teammates all year about how I wanted to score a goal (even though I play defense), and in the last 30 seconds of the game, I scored off a penalty corner. Everyone was so excited for me, and it really showed how much of a family our team is.

3) Do you have any pregame rituals?

Not particularly, just listening to loud music and getting excited with my team.

4) How do you keep yourself motivated?

To keep myself motivated, I try to create small goals for myself throughout the season. Whether it be using more dodges in-game or working on my drive, having a goal that I know is attainable makes me work harder to achieve it and helps me become a better player.

5) Looking into the future, how do you think being a part of a team will help you succeed?

Being a part of a team has given me so many skills I can use in all parts of life. Collaboration, communication, and building meaningful bonds are all things I have learned or developed through Forest Hills Field Hockey. Not only will they help me in future sports, but in the workplace and school as well.
