Draft Five-Year Plan

It's hard to believe how far we've come since a group of girls learned to play for the first time in Ada Park in the fall of 2007! Our growth has been both exciting and a bit overwhelming. In order to make sure the club grows in a reasonably consistent manner, we have drafted a first attempt at a 'five-year plan.' It's only a general guide, leaving it up to the board and staff to flesh out the details. Please take a look and provide some feedback at your convenience:

The Forest Hills Field Hockey Club was founded in 2007 by Andrea Shaner as a way for local girls to learn the sport of field hockey. It's one of only two programs in the western half of Michigan to have joined the Michigan High School Field Hockey Association. The club is designed for students in the Forest Hills school district, but as a club team, girls from surrounding districts are welcome to participate on a case-by-case basis.

Andrea Shaner is an East Coast native, born and raised in Frederick County, MD (north of Washington, D.C.) As a result, sports like field hockey and lacrosse that might be "weird" for Michiganders are second nature to her. Andrea was a letter-winner in both sports at Urbana High School, and was also a swimmer. In the spring, you'll find her on the sidelines with the Forest Hills JV Lacrosse team.

Assistant Coach Carol Aaron started playing Field Hockey in Ann Arbor in seventh Grade. She then played at Ann Arbor Huron High School and then on the Michigan State Varsity team for four years. She then went on to play Club Hockey in Ann Arbor and Lansing and has been in six National Tournaments.

Thanks to all the parents for your help in the 2011 season!

Note for visitors:

Home games for the varsity and JV teams are now played at Forest Hills Central High School (use the map link above). This is a TURF field.

From I-96:

Take Exit 40B for Cascade Rd EAST.

Follow Cascade for about 1 1/2 miles. You will come to two stoplights very close to each other. The first is Spaulding Rd, the second is Hall St. Follow Hall to the left, and continue for about 3/4 mile.

The school will be on your left. Depending on the state of construction and other events at the time of your visit, you may use the first driveway (loop behind the school to the left) or the transportation center driveway just past the baseball field (loop behind the tennis courts and past the bus garage to the stadium area).

We will play on the lower turf field, just behind and below the stadium.
