Note from Coach:

MSU Play Day - Sunday, January 31

Apologies for the short notice, but this just fell into our lap today (the 20th). MSU coach Rolf van de Kerkhof has invited FH2 players to participate in a Play Day on Sunday the 31st of January. The cost is only $40. Coach Shaner will be planning to attend.

The event is at the MSU indoor practice facility from 9AM - 3PM. Yes, there's indoor lacrosse that evening, so we'll understand if you can't make it, but in theory, you could do both! :-) This is open to ALL girls age 10-18, so feel free to invite friends who may be interested in playing next year (we have some sticks to loan out if needed).

Click here for the registration information (PDF file - new window). Hope to see you there!

PS We're also working with Rolf on scheduling one of our regular-season games for 2010 at MSU's turf game field. How cool would that be?

Coaches Say Thanks!

Andrea, Carol, and Jon all want to say 'thanks' for the wonderful end-of-season gifts. They were all so thoughtful and generous! Please also remember to visit the Olive Garden and thank them for donating our food for the banquet.

"WHISE Guys" Camp Coming to East Grand Rapids

Michigan State coach Rolf Van de Kerkhof, along with other internationally-known coaches, will be holding a two-day camp on July 30-31, 2010 at East Grand Rapids. This is a camp that is only held in a handful of locations around the country each summer, and Coach Shaner had to do some convincing to get him to agree to come here. We've promised him a good turnout, so please make an effort to attend if you plan on playing next season. The cost is $159 for early-bird registration, which is really good considering you won't have to pay for a hotel, travel, etc. We will post a link to the registration forms once they are released.

Board of Directors Meetings & Documents

Board of Directors agendas, minutes, and reports will be made available on the Documents page. Feel free to look over the information and send your comments along to Coach Shaner.

Send Us Your Photos!

We're always looking for good on-and-off-field action shots to add to our media archives and use for promotional materials. Please e-mail photos to Coach Shaner!

The Forest Hills Field Hockey Club was founded in 2007 by Andrea Shaner as a way for local girls to learn the sport of field hockey. It's one of only two programs in the western half of Michigan to have joined the Michigan High School Field Hockey Association. The club is designed for students in the Forest Hills school district, but as a club team, girls from surrounding districts are welcome to participate on a case-by-case basis.

Andrea Shaner is an East Coast native, born and raised in Frederick County, MD (north of Washington, D.C.) As a result, sports like field hockey and lacrosse that might be "weird" for Michiganders are second nature to her. Andrea was a letter-winner in both sports at Urbana High School, and was also a swimmer. In the spring, you'll find her on the sidelines with the Forest Hills JV Lacrosse team.

Assistant Coach Carol Aaron started playing Field Hockey in Ann Arbor in seventh Grade. She then played at Ann Arbor Huron High School and then on the Michigan State Varsity team for four years. She then went on to play Club Hockey in Ann Arbor and Lansing and has been in six National Tournaments.

IMPORTANT NOTE FOR TEAMS AND OFFICIALS: Several parents and officials had problems last year because they mistakenly went to one of the Forest Hills high schools. Practices and home games are at Cascade Township Park.

Directions to Cascade Township Park from Lansing/Ann Arbor/Detroit:

Take I-96 West to Exit 44 (36th St.) Turn left on 36th Street and go to the first light at the top of the hill. Turn left at the light (Thornapple River Dr.) and cross over the highway. The park entrance is on the right immediately on the other side of the highway. The game field is to the right, past the tennis courts.

For visiting teams and families, the park includes good picnic, playground, and restroom facilities.

Extensive dining and retail options are available on 28th Street, the next exit west on I-96 (43 A/B).
